Life Line Screening Clinic

May is Stroke Prevention Month!

What a perfect time for a health screening clinic at Holy Family Catholic Church, 9669 Kraft Avenue SE, Caledonia on Tuesday, May 11, 2010 from 9am through 4:30 pm. On that day, Life Line Screening will scan the carotid artery in the neck for plaque build-up, which can lead to STROKE, (75% of all strokes are linked to carotid artery blockage) and the arteries in the legs for peripheral arterial disease, which is linked to heart disease. They will also offer a third test of aneurysms in the aortic vessel in the abdomen. Life Line Screening will also offer a bone density screening to test for Osteoporosis. This year they have added a fifth test, Atrial Fibrillation, which is the most common type of heart arrhythmia or irregular heartbeat. This is a prevention program, and with early detection, these problems can be treated. The results are sent directly to you in about 21 days.

These tests which are non-invasive, completely painless and take about ten minutes each, are offered for $45.00 a piece. Recieve discounts when you sign up for the Stroke/Wellness Package - $139.00 and save $60.00. Pre-Registration is a MUST! If you would like to sign up early feel free to contact: Health Service Coordinator, Karin Povish at 248-685-8443. She can answer any questions you may have and pre-register you for this life saving event.

New Gaines Public Library Manager

Cathy Neis has been selected as the new Gaines Township Branch Manager. Cathy will start her new positon on April 19, 2010. Cathy has been with KDL since 1998 and is highly trained with a great deal of library experience. Gaines Charter Township welcomes her!

Michelle Boisvenue-Fox, current Branch Manager at the Gaines Township Branch of Kent District Library, has accepted a new position as Assistant Director of Public Services with Kent District Library. Her promotion comes three years after coming to the Gaines Township Library. In her time as Branch Manager, Michelle has worked to enhance the library’s environment by merchandising the collection with attractive displays, adding tables for laptop users and seating areas as well as increasing the space in the kids area. These improvements resulted in increased branch use. She has brought many wonderful books, ideas, and opportunities to the residents of Gaines Charter Township in her time at the local branch. It has truly been a pleasure to work with her!

“It has been a pleasure working with Michelle these last three years. She truly has had the best interests of Gaines Township residents and the library at the heart of everything she has done in and for our branch. We will miss her input and her positive contributions to our branch but look forward to seeing the results of those on a district-wide level. We wish Michelle only the best”
Crystal Osterink, Gaines Charter Township Clerk.

"I was privileged to be a part of the selection committee when Michelle was chosen to become the new Kent District Library Branch Manager for the Gaines Township library. Michelle quickly demonstrated her enthusiastic approach, suggesting changes to the library to make it more inviting and user friendly. During her time with us the number of citizens using the library increased dramatically. When I was informed that she is leaving and assuming the Assistant Director of Public Services position within the Kent District Library system I contacted her to wish her well and told her that our loss will be the gain of the users throughout the Kent District Library System. Congratulations Michelle!"
Don R. Hilton Sr. Gaines Charter Township Supervisor.
